It was quite heartbreaking to encounter this scene.
We have been taking care of this garden in hopes of making it a haven for play and a place of love and connection. Our hearts were unprepared for this. Our first thoughts were something like: “Who did this? How could they……?”
What we would go on to learn from the children is not to assume the worst about humanity.
When the first children to arrive saw this, their reactions were
1 We can fix it!
2 Was it a storm?
3 Were there animals here?
We appreciate and value the children’s sense of hope and curiosity (rather than automatic blame).
